Where to Eat
Restaurants & Fast Food
Georgia Dean’s Restaurant
So named for the flamboyant florist who had her shop where the restaurant is now. It serves a varied range of dishes – a bit more upscale. They serve wine, beer, and mixed drinks. Google map
Red Heron Restaurant
They serve good food, wine, beer, and mixed drinks. Everyone loves their salmon or shrimp and grits. Google map
Shamrock Restaurant
They serve good southern food and lots of it. It is a popular spot for the men to gather in early morning to tell tall tales. Try the Southern fried chicken and especially the collards if you have never had them. Everyone loves their Friday seafood buffet. They also have a great breakfast. Open early. Google map
Deadwood (pictured)
Bear Grass – open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the quiet town of Bear Grass, about 8 miles away. Deadwood offers more than just a meal. Folks can wander around or take a mini-train ride. They serve beer only. It is a favorite for families. Google map
Hitching Post Restaurant
This restaurant has a varied menu and is a favorite of families. They serve beer and wine. Trip Advisor
Mama’s Pizza
The locals really like to eat here. It is not a chain and the Italian owners live in the area. If you aren’t very hungry, you can order the child’s portion without anyone glaring at you. They serve beer and wine, but you had better order the whole bottle. Sometimes they let the wine sit too long after it is opened. Google map
Ribeyes Steakhouse
Stays open later than other restaurants – they cater to the “horse people” who show at the Bob Martin Agricultural Center across the road. They serve wine, beer, and mixed drinks. Google map
Los Amigos
This is a fairly new Mexican restaurant and my guests give it rave reviews. They serve beer, wine, and mixed drinks. You just have to have that marguerita with the Mexican food! Google map
Sunnyside Oyster Bar
SEASONAL – This place is no frills, but serves up great oysters, they actually shuck them for you right at the bar. They do serve steamed shrimp, Alaskan crab legs, and mushy broccoli. Sunnyside has been around since the mid-1930s and folks come from all over to eat here. It is only open in months that have an “R” in them. They serve beer and wine. Google map
Fast Food
We have almost any fast food that you could want. The locals really love Bojangles, especially their Cheddar Bo Biscuits and their sweet iced tea. You can find Hardees, Wendys, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Sonic, McDonalds, Dominos Pizza, Burger King, Little Caesars, Pizza Hut, and Subway
